I agree with Mr. Chris savage's report. I found it very down to earth and insightful. although I am not in the education field, I still find that the attacks on teachers is down right morally wrong. Yes there are good and bad teachers, but there also good and bad doctors and lawyers etc. but it does not give the republicans right to declare " open season on teachers". the teaching profession is an integral core of any civilized society. The republicans denigration of teachers , I suspect is centered around the "for profit progression of privatization of the public systems through out the country. I sincerely want to thank you for writing such an article exposing some of the hippocracy that the republicans are spreading about the teaching profession.

I am interested in becoming a tutor and an IEA-Retired Mentor. I have worked as a teacher/instructor/Mentor/administrator for 22 years in the juvenile court system of Los Angeles.
I received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Los Angeles County Office of Ed.
I think your programs will make a difference and I would like to be part of it.

Thank you Mr. O' Donnell and Mr Damon. When teachers try to express their frustrations, they are told to "Stop whining, you have the summers off," so thank you for defending us. Most of us love our jobs, but we are weary from all the criticism. I work for the Chicago Public Schools and even our leaders, Mr Emmanuel and Mr. Brizard are "teacher haters." It is difficult to work for an administration that does not even like or support its employees.

Mr. O'Donnell's commentary was wonderful and so was your letter, Anne. Matt Damon's sincere remarks to educators last Saturday should help us continue to do what we are doing...correct those who bash teachers, keep repeating what standardized tests are doing to both teacher and student, become more politically active and teach the kids we are there for. Thanks to all of you!
